Simple

November 01, 2023 by Nathan Clarkson

As I was sitting down to write this. I began looking through this past month in effort to find interesting enough things that I’ve done to write about, but I quickly realized, I didn’t have any— I didn’t climb any mountains, or travel to a far off place, I didn’t eat a gourmet meal at a fancy place, I didn’t meet a famous person, or accomplish some great feat. But here’s what I did do— I finished a book that I had been reading for a couple months, I went on a couple dates to the movies with my wife, I ate some amazing home-cooked meals, I caught up with friends on phone calls, I binged a fun TV series, and I chipped away at my creative and writing projects. And while none of that is very instagram worthy, I loved all of it.

I think in this modern day we have begun to associate a valuable life with a big life. One filled with moments that would get lots of likes on social media. But for most of us, life is simple, but I think that maybe it’s supposed to be that way most of the time and there’s a heroic greatness to pursuing the small things in our lives with faithfulness.

I know so many who feel that their lives aren’t living up to some external standard they see reflected online or in the lives of others. But in reminding myself I hope I can remind you, that there is great beauty and deep value in the simple moments of our everyday lives.
