Acting from The Intellect
In both my acting training and spiritual life, I have felt the pressure from both the drama community and church culture to relate to my life primarily through my emotions. Emotions are a wonderful, God created thing! The only problem is, often both groups seem to imply that through emotions are the ONLY way to either be a good actor or a good Christian. I believe this to be an incomplete understanding of how God created us to work.
God gave us a heart where we were created to feel things, but he also gave us a minds to think things. And when we favor one over the other, in either acting or spirtual life, our performance will be out of balance and incomplete.
After years of studying so many acting methods that just told me to feel, i decided it was time to come up with a method that utilized both the mind and emotions. The book is called Acting From The Intellect, and while it is written as an acting method for actors looking for a more intellectual approach to the art form, you also might find some spiritual truths to apply to your spiritual life too.
